BESPOKE EDUCATION

 
 

The school is situated at Seameadows and has a limited number of students enabling the staff to work with them on a more intimate and personal level. The educational unit has achieved registration as full school status with the DFES. Each student will receive an individual development plan with clear targets and a timetable. Seameadows focus is to engage young people with the world of education training and work while not replicating the school curriculum and mainstream education methods but instead searching for innovative and creative approaches.

The schooling staff comprise of:

Qualified full time teachers (Certificate of Education DTLS, PTLS)
Qualified Part Time teachers (Certificate of Education DTLS, PTLS)
Learning support workers
Outside agency involvement (Connexions, Sports for NRG, KCA)

Aims

Our overall aim is to enable students to achieve their full potential for future independent and personal autonomy. We seek to achieve this by:

  • Developing pupils' communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Developing pupils' self-esteem and self-worth;
  • Maximising pupils' opportunity for integration and inclusion into a variety of community settings;
  • Maximising pupils' opportunity to function independently as a member of society;
  • Enhancing pupils' capacity for enjoyment and fulfilment;
  • Enabling pupils to realise their potential in particular areas of interest;

Curriculum

It is recognised that some pupils require teaching strategies and a curriculum balance that reflects practice from both specialist settings, and therefore there is considerable organisational flexibility to enable the needs of such students to be met. Pupils are taught mainly by their class teacher and usually within the appropriate age-related key stage.
Many learning opportunities take place off-site. For example, some classes study: Asdan sports and fitness at Hartsdown leisure centre, Outdoor education Kersney Abbey Dover , swimming at local pools or rock climbing at Revolution Pupils' achievements are accredited through nationally recognised awards, including Target skills initial assessment , ASDAN, and GCSE.

Strategies

A range of alternative and augmentative communication forms are used to meet 
the need of individual pupils.
A range of specialist teaching strategies are used to reflect the individual, preferred learning styles and special educational needs of the pupils. Including Individualised Educational Development plan with weekly targets and a reward chart for attendance and achievement. Weekly reports are carried out by teachers and sent home.
